Small Charcuterie Board for Two (1)

Creating the perfect, easy charcuterie board for two means buying the perfect mix of cheeses, meats, crackers, nuts, fruit & vegetables. Here's my go-to charcuterie board shopping list.

  • 1 x hard cheese - I've used a sheep's truffle cheese. You could also buy a sharp cheddar or smoked cheese.
  • 2 x soft cheeses - I've used a Camembert and whipped goat's chèvre (I'll show you how to make this further down in the post).
  • 2-3 cured meats - for this romantic charcuterie board I've opted for a truffle salami and an Italian prosciutto. Preservative free is best if possible.
  • Fruit - I like to fill up spaces with cherries, strawberries, blueberries or other berries that are in season.
  • Nuts - I've used shelled pistachios but you could also use almonds, Brazil nuts, pecans or any other nut that you like.
  • Crackers - the best crackers for charcuterie, in my opinion, are gluten free seeded crackers.
  • Vegetables - halved radishes work well here as they are nice and crunchy and perfect to dip into that whipped goats cheese. Radishes can be a bit hit or miss though depending on your tastes so you might prefer to use carrots, cucumbers or celery here.

Assembly

Follow these simple instructions for assembling this easy charcuterie board for two.

Step 1: Make The Whipped Goats Cheese

To make the whipped goats cheese, simply add around 100g of soft goat's chèvre to a food processor and blend until smooth and creamy. If you have a large food processor, like the one pictured, you may need to use a larger amount of goats chèvre for it to whip properly. I have used 320grams in the picture below.

You won't need this full amount for a charcuterie board for 2 so serve as much as desired and save the rest in an airtight, glass container for later.

Whipped goats chèvre is delicious spread onto toast and topped with tomato slices, dolloped onto pizza or stirred through pasta.

Step 2: Add the Bowls

To assemble your board, start by positioning your bowls on the board at opposite sides. I have used a medium bowl for the whipped goats chèvre and a smaller dish for the pistachio nuts.

Step 3: Add the Remaining Cheeses

Position the remaining cheeses at opposite sides of the board. For a small charcuterie board you won't need to add a full Camembert. Two wedges of your cheeses of choice will be perfect!

Step 4: Arrange Meats

Add your chosen cured meats to the board. Around 4 slices of prosciutto and 10-12 small salami slices works well.

Step 5: Charcuterie crackers

Add your crackers to the board. I like to fan them out and curve them around the bowls for a visually appealing affect.

Step 6: Add fruits & vegetables

Last but not least is the berries and vegetables. Berries not only taste great but they elevate any charcuterie board and help to fill in any gaps. Use cherries, strawberries, blueberries or blackberries here along with your choice of vegetable.

Dairy Free Charcuterie Board

So you're dairy free but you still want to enjoy all that a romantic charcuterie board has to offer? Luckily there are now SO many options for dairy free cheeses around. If you're lactose intolerant there are lactose free hard cheeses and Camembert.

For completely dairy free and vegan cheeses there are so many options. Try switching the whipped goats chèvre for a cashew cream cheese.

There are also a wide range of vegan cheeses made using a base of nuts (usually almonds or cashews) and range from Camembert to soft cheeses to hard cheeses. Your nearest organic grocer should have a range for you to choose from.

Storage

A charcuterie board is best served and eaten straight away. If you have leftovers wrap each individual cheese in cling film or a beeswax wrap. Then wrap the entire board in cling film or a beeswax wrap. It's best to wrap cheeses separately first to prevent them from drying out.

Serving

Serve with your favourite wine or non-alcoholic beverage, like kombucha, kefir or lime and mineral water. You may wish to serve with two small plates or simply eat straight from the board.
